WASILLA — The Alaska Department of Public Safety recently released the results of a special five-day enforcement effort surrounding the Fourth July.
Statistically, Independence Day draws a high number of DUI related incidents, prompting Alaskan law enforcement officers to increase their efforts during the week of this widely celebrated holiday.
This coincides with the national anti-DUI campaign focused on high visibility enforcement Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
Alaska State Troopers cited 88 drivers across the state during this year’s campaign through increased patrols along Alaska’s roadways.
Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers made the following contacts from July 1 through July 6:
3 misdemeanor DUI arrests
0 felony DUI Arrests
7 drivers charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license
8 REDDIs reported with 5 drivers contacted and ultimately
determined not to be DUI
19 damage only collisions
4 injury collisions
0 fatal collision were investigated by troopers
206 of the 288 citations issued for speeding, and 4 citations went to drivers for seatbelt or other occupant restraint violations.
The Alaska Highway Safety Office issued a grant for this high traffic enforcement campaign.
