He hit three vehicles and narrowly missed a group of pedestrians before he crashed into the Walmart store and now, Wasilla police say, he’s under arrest for driving while intoxicated.
Police responded to the Walmart store on Seward Meridian Parkway at 1:31 p.m., Dec. 8 for a report that a vehicle had hit the store, according to a Wasilla Police Department press release.
“Pedestrians in the parking lot also reported nearly being hit by the vehicle. Officers received a report of the same vehicle having been driving off the road and hitting three vehicles in the parking lot of the Lowes on E. Sun Mountain Avenue,” according to the press release.
Police say the driver, David Balthazore, failed a field sobriety test.
“Balthazore was found to be under the influence of an inhalant and medication, which impaired his driving,” the press release states.
He was charged with driving under the influence and police say other charges may be pending. As of Thursday afternoon, he was listed in a state database as being housed at the Goose Creek Correctional Center.
