Driver breaks North Star Speedway record

WASILLA — Dana Pruhs opened the 2010 summer racing season in record fashion.

Pruhs set the record in the late model class during the first day of racing Saturday at North Star Speedway in Wasilla. The veteran driver posted an 11.009 to beat the previous record of 11.115 set by Corey LaCosta in 2001.

Jeff Landrum finished first in a pair of events. Landrum won the baby grands and legends classes.

Carly Meacham (bandoleros), Alex Schwochert (mini stocks) and Keith Jones (thunderstocks) also won events.

North Star will host its military appreciation night on Saturday. Those with valid military identification will be admitted for $5.

BUTTE — A pair of Palmer drivers won races at Alaska Raceway Park in the Butte Sunday.

Harold Pigott hit 110.32 mph on the quarter-mile drag strip to win the Super ET. Thornsley finished first in the Mod ET.
