WASILLA — Lisa Shira, 47, was critically injured around 8:55 a.m., Feb. 15 in a two-vehicle accident that closed Knik-Goose Bay Road for nearly two hours.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Settlers Bay Driver when Melinda Hatfield, 43, Wasilla, was southbound driving a Dodge pickup that crossed the centerline, striking the Ford Taurus Shira was driving.
Shira’s sister, Dawn Duval, said she was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer for treatment of her injuries. She remains hospitalized while she recovers from those injuries, including a broken hip, femur, ankle, arm and wrist, Duval said.
Guy and Lisa Shira have four daughters, she said, and Guy’s had to take time off work to care for his wife and daughters.
Duval said the Valley family needs help with medical expenses and airline miles to help family members travel here to care for the family.
“We’re asking friends and family of the Shira’s for cash donations to Alaska USA, account No. 1700016632200, to help cover the cost of her care,” she said. “All donations, big or small, would be greatly appreciated.”
The Shira family lived in the Juneau area for more than 20 years before moving to Wasilla, she said.
