Just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday, a vehicle drove around concrete barriers, across the lawn and through the front two doors of the Wasilla Police Department lobby. WPD Officers and Alaska State Troopers were immediately on-scene and were able to safely remove the driver from the vehicle, according to WPD Media and Technology Officer Amanda Graham.
The Wasilla Police Department and nearby high school ball fields were evacuated for a vehicle investigation. Following a response from the Anchorage Bomb Squad and FBI technicians, the scene was cleared with no threat found.
WPD has identified the suspect as 41-year-old Thomas Desalvo, of Wasilla. Desalvo was taken into custody at the scene after being cleared by medics, and has been remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility, where he is facing initial charges of: three counts of terroristic threatening in the first degree, one count of criminal mischief in the first degree, one count of criminal mischief in the third degree, one count of assault in the third degree, one count of assault in the fourth degree, and two counts of reckless endangerment.
An uninvolved citizen in the lobby at the time of the impact was unharmed.
Additional charges may be added as the investigation continues.
This is a developing story.
