So, a Title IX lawsuit has been filed against local schools. Maybe it’s time to rethink the school system priorities. How about just dumping inter school sports entirely? That would eliminated in further lawsuits. It would also free up a large block of money for what schools are supposed to be doing, educating our children.
If individuals want some form of competitive sports, they could simply finance them without using monies allotted to the schools. They could also find the areas needed for the sports and save the taxpayers some more money. Of course, those people would also be required to insure the participants of those sports, again freeing up more money for education.
Another possibility for lawsuits is the unequal way the Alaska Legislature funds the schools in the state. It has been reported the amount spent per pupil in schools outside the organized boroughs is approximately three times the amount spend per pupil in the borough schools.
The United States Supreme Court has ruled such imbalance unlawful. Maybe it’s time the Alaska Legislature took a good look at the Alaska Constitution, which mandates the state fund all education in the state, and did it right for a change.
