PALMER — Alaska State Troopers say they caught a fleeing motorist that Anchorage police chased into the Valley on Sunday.
According to a trooper press statement, Anchorage police tried to pull over a 2006 GMC pickup in the Eagle River area. Troopers caught it at around Mile 33 of the Glenn Highway. The pickup sped up and, then on the Parks Highway, was traveling at more than 100 mph.
The pickup eventually stopped on the highway at Hyer Road. The driver, Joshua Nelson, 25, of Wasilla, was charged with eluding arrest and drunken driving. Since this is the third time he’s had a DUI charge in 10 years, this one is a felony.
Nelson was jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $10,000 bail. Jail records Thursday afternoon showed he was still incarcerated.
