Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Mr. Duane L. Goodrich, 71, died of an accident on his property July 20, 2003.
A public memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at the Elks Club on Finger Lake, 2600 Barry's Resort Road in Wasilla. Kenneth Hughes officiated.
Mr. Goodrich was born May 24, 1932, in Kelso, Wash.
He moved to Alaska in 1940 and graduated from Palmer High School in 1951.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1952. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged as corporal in 1954.
Mr. Goodrich owned and operated Palmer machinery from 1948 through 1989, when he retired at age 62.
His interests included hunting, fishing, and many outdoor activities.
His family said, "He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and had many special friends."
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Elinor; sons Mark and Monte of Palmer; daughter Kathryn of Athena, Ore.; sister and brother-in-law Arleta and Patrick O'Connor and their families; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
