WASILLA — Governor Mike Dunleavy spoke with reporters on a recent trip to Washington D.C. where his stated attempt was to ‘put Alaska on the map.’ Dunleavy told reporters that he wants to work to diversify the economy, and is doing everything he can during discussions with high level government officials in our nation’s capital.

“We have to highlight what we have to offer the country and investors,” said Dunleavy. “We’ve been trying to do everything we can to get alaska on the map.”

Dunleavy’s met with the U.S. Attorney General, Secretary of Education, the National Security Conference and a meeting with President Trump and other Governors. Dunleavy hopes that by engaging in discussions in D.C., more investors will sink their available wealth into resources in the Last Frontier. Dunleavy clarified by noting that he had seen the reports of his travels outside of Alaska and that he would not travel for personal reasons on the state’s dime.

Dunleavy did not answer questions about recent reports of Pebble Mine documents published by CNN. Dunleavy said that he had not read the story and would not understand the context of the question but would reach out to that reporter later.

Dunleavy also discussed the recent reading initiative signed by six school superintendents.

“We think there needs to be a renewed focus on reading in some of our lowest performing schools,” said Dunleavy. “That discussion will ensue once the bills are drafted and we are able to file them and start having discussions with others.”
