Governor-elect Mike Dunleavy has appointed Tamika Ledbetter as Commissioner of the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, his second cabinet choice.
Ledbetter is currently a regional manager for the Anchorage/Mat-Su Economic Region with the labor department, an agency with which she has worked 11 years.
Dunleavy has now appointed two women as commissioners, both with connections to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. Earlier last week he appointed Corri Feige, a long-time Mat-Su resident, as Commissioner of Natural Resources.
Prior to working for state government, Ledbetter worked as an employment facilitator for MAXIMUS/Alaska Works in Wasilla. She is also a U.S. Air Force veteran and began her professional career as an educator in South Carolina.
Ledbetter holds a Doctorate in Management and Organizational Leadership and a Master of Arts in Education/Adult Education and Training from the University of Phoenix. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in History/Political Science from Virginia Union University.
“I am confident Dr. Ledbetter’s experience will serve the people of Alaska well,” said Dunleavy. “We are fortunate to have someone with her skills and abilities willing to serve in such an important role.”
