ANCHORAGE — The West Anchorage Eagles captured the 4A state boys title with an 80-58 win over the Wasilla Warriors at Sullivan Arena Wednesday night.
West outscored Wasilla 19-7 during the fourth quarter en route to earning its first state title since 2006. Wasilla was playing in hits third state title game since 2003.
Braydon Kuiper scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Warriors. Kuiper was one of four Warriors to hit double digits in scoring. Senior Drew Ford scored 14, on 5-of-7 shooting. Cody Pfeifer added 12 and Connor Devine chipped in 11.
Tom Feeney led West with a game-high 31. Feeney hit 14-of-15 from the free throw line.
Feeney scored 13 points during the first two quarters to help West take a 42-33 lead into halftime. Kuiper scored nine points during the first two quarters to lead the Warriors.
Wasilla led 13-12 with three minutes left in the first quarter, but the Eagles capped the first with a 14-2 run.
