EDWARD L. YUNKER JR.

Nome resident Edward L. Yunker Jr., 63, died March 1, 2002, at Mary Conrad Center of complications from pancreatitis and a stroke.

No services are planned at this time.

Mr. Yunker was born March 9, 1938, in Oxnard, Calif., and graduated from Ventura High School in Ventura, Calif. While a resident of California he worked as a ranch hand and handyman. Later, in Idaho, he worked as a handyman. He moved to Alaska in December 1988 and lived in Wasilla. In November 2000, he moved to Nome, where he lived until moving to Anchorage in March 2002.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Christian church.

Mr. Yunker enjoyed hunting, fishing and prospecting for gold.

His family said, "Edward enjoyed family most of all. Nothing brought Edward greater joy than spending time with his children and grandchildren."

Survivors include his children, Sherrie Yunker of Nome, Edward L. Yunker III of Oxnard, Calif., Jerald Yunker of Winston-Salem, N.C., Robert Yunker of Royal Oak, Mich., Michael Yunker of Wasilla, Brenda Yunker of Nome, Donald Yunker of Palmer, and Rebecca Stern of Nome; brother, Larry Yunker of Onyx, Calif.; granddaughters, Nicole Yunker, Brittany Yunker and Ashley Yunker of Oxnard, Calif., and J'Nae Stern of Nome; grandsons, Ryan Yunker and Brandon Yunker of Winston-Salem, N.C., Michael Yunker of Wasilla, and Donovan Yunker of Nome.

His wife, Roberta (English) Yunker, preceded him in death.

Arrangements were made by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
