Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Ed Frandsen died May 10, 2005 in Yuma, Ariz, after an extended hospital stay.
Mr. Frandsen was born March 19, 1928, in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, to Mike and Leona Frandsen. He was the youngest of five children.
He attended Coer d' Alene schools, where he was active in sports and music. His senior year he was named to the All State Basketball team. He graduated from the University of Idaho, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He belonged to Sigma Alpha Epsilon and sang with the Vandaleers.
Mr. Frandsen's teaching and coaching career took him to Rathdrum, Sandpoint, and Lewiston, Idaho.
He also served as director of the Boy's Club in Lewiston and directed the science fair. In 1970, he moved to Wasilla, where he was a high school principal until he retired in 1980. Mr. Frandsen was president of the Alaska High School Activities Association and involved in the Alaska School Administrators Association.
He was always active in various service organizations, such as the Lions, chambers of commerce and Eagles, and was a lifetime Elks member.
He served on the Iditarod Trail Committee board. In 1983, Mr. Frandsen was honored as volunteer of the year by the Mat-Su Borough.
Mr. Frandsen and his wife, Dot, enjoyed their recreation properties on the Kenai River in Alaska and Conkling Park on Lake Coeur d' Alene, where they met many good friends. Since 1991, the couple spent winters as "snowbirds" in Yuma, Ariz. They recently purchased a home in Leisure Park in Hayden, Idaho.
His family wrote, "Many of Ed's happiest moments were spent on the golf course and may he now be pursuing that elusive 'hole in one.'"
