To the editor:
I am certain you know what Elan “Lennie” went through after the attack. Numerous surgeries etc., and she is still in need of more.
This took a big financial hit on her and her son, who has been taking care of her since the day she was released from the hospital. She needed 24/7 care. Her son could not work for the longest time. And the little money the state paid (if any), that doesn’t go very far. After Lennie got somewhat better, there were daily trips to the doctors, rehab facilities etc., costing them lots of money in gas. Then there is the apartment that they live in. The rent is $950 dollars a month, which is not bad, but if you can’t work it is impossible to afford once your life savings run out. This apartment is like her sanctuary, it gave her hope and peace.
It is so sad, knowing what Lennie has been going through and the long, hard road still ahead of her to get better, but with no roof over her head, she is not going to be able to go see the doctors etc.
We all listened to the awful news when the attack happened, and it was sickening — and still is. But here we are, seeing how our system works. A murderer has a roof over his head, three meals a day, but for someone like Lennie nobody cares. But I bet everyone was glued to the television when Lennie was the news.
It would not take much to help her and her son.
I would love to have a $1 donation “Rally for Lennie.” If everybody would just donate $1, we all would be contributing to her recovery. We are talking about her future here and what she has been through. She deserves all the help that we can give her.
If I were rich I wouldn’t have to reach out to you, but you are my last hope.
After all, the news stations don’t care.
My friend Lennie is the best. She always has been a caring person, helping everybody. Now that she is in need, we should return the favor.
