SEWARD -- Rory Egelus of Palmer won the boys 5-K race and Susitna Valley High's girls took the team championship Saturday at the Seward Cross-Country Invitational.
Egelus clocked 16 minutes, 29 seconds to beat runner-up Troy Baldwin of Kenai by 14 seconds.
Kasey Thompson of Wasilla was 13th in 17:50, Ryan Lewis of Palmer was 14th in 17:51, and Chris Odom of Wasilla was 15th in 17:53.
Taz Mannix of Su Valley scooted home third in the girls individual race with a time of 19:59. Teammate Melissa Ostermick was eighth in 20:50, Katie Fitzgerald of Palmer was 10th in 20:56, Su Valley's Kayti Krepel was 13th in 21:10 and Jen Thompson of Su Valley was 14th in 21:14. Danielle Lincecum of Palmer clocked 21:27 for 18th with Wasilla's Susanna Caldwell four seconds back in 19th place.
Su Valley secured its girls team title with Krystal Moore clocking 21:32 for 20th.
Su Valley's girls scored a total of 57 points to outdistance second-place Seward, 73; Grace Christian, 85; Bartlett, 87; Kenai, 88; Palmer, 127; Skyview, 154; Houston, 226; Bethel, 248; Unalaska, 287; and Anchorage Christian School, 297.
Bartlett won the boys team competition with 51 points, followed by Anchorage Christian School, 82, Grace Christian, 105; Seward, 105; Kenai, 118; Palmer, 144; Wasilla, 151; Skyview, 192; Su Valley, 211; Nikiski, 282; Bethel, 285; and Houston, 302.
