Eight Valley teams advance to state soccer tournaments

The Mat-Su is the home of the ASAA/First National Bank State Soccer Championships, and the Valley will be well represented.

Eight of the 10 Valley squads have qualified for the 2025 Division I and Division II state tournaments, which start Thursday at Wasilla, Colony and Palmer high schools.

The Colony boys and girls, Wasilla boys and girls, Palmer boys and girls, Houston boys and Redington girls all landed on one of the four brackets.

Colony (15-1-2 overall) grabbed the No. 1 seed in the Division I boys bracket. The Knights finished second in the Railbelt Conference with a 5-1-2 mark. Juneau-Douglas (6-0-2) scored the Railbelt title. But Colony had the higher RPI rating, which ASAA uses to seed the state soccer brackets. Colony faces eighth-seeded South Anchorage (9-5-1) Thursday at 7 p.m. at Colony in the first round. It’s a rematch of a 2024 state championship match won by the Wolverines.

Wasilla (10-8-3) is the No. 6 seed in the Division I boys bracket, and will meet third-seeded West Anchorage (13-2-3) Thursday at 9 a.m. at Wasilla High.

Fourth-seeded Dimond (14-3-1) also meets fifth-seeded West Valley (9-5-1) Thursday at 1 p.m. at CHS, and No. 2 Juneau-Douglas (11-1-3) plays seventh-seeded Service (10-6-2) Thursday at 7 p.m. at WHS.

The Division I boys championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at WHS.

Wasilla earned the No. 3 seed in the Division I girls bracket after winning the Railbelt Conference title. The Warriors (16-3-2) meet conference rival Lathrop (9-5-0) Thursday at 5 p.m. at WHS. Colony (12-5-1) is the No. 5 seed and plays fourth-seeded Service 11-4-2) Thursday at 11 a.m. at CHS.

Dimond (16-1-1) is the top seed and plays eighth-seeded West Valley (6-7-1) Thursday at 3 p.m. Second-seeded South (13-0-1) meets seventh-seeded Chugiak (8-6-1) Thursday at 9 a.m. at Colony.

The Division I girls championship game is Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Wasilla High.

Palmer grabbed the No. 3 seed in the Division II boys tourney. The Moose (14-1-3) play sixth-seeded Homer (6-6-1) Thursday at 1 p.m. On the same side of the bracket, seventh-seeded Houston (6-10-3) faces No. 2 Ketchikan (6-4-0) Thursday at 1 p.m. at WHS.

Soldotna (13-4-1) is the top seed and plays eighth-seeded North Pole (3-7-3) Thursday at 5 p.m. at CHS. Fourth-seeded Kenai (9-6-2) meets fifth-seeded Monroe Catholic (5-1-1) Thursday at 11 a.m. at Palmer High.

The Division II boys championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Wasilla.

Palmer is also the No. 3 seed in the Division II girls bracket. The Moose (11-4-1) play Homer (3-8-1) Thursday at 3 p.m.

Kenai (11-3-0) is the top seed, and faces eighth-seeded Redington (7-8-0) Thursday at 3 p.m. at Wasilla. No. 2 Soldotna (9-4-2) plays seventh-seeded Ketchikan (3-4-0) Thursday at 11 a.m. at Wasilla. Fourth-seeded Grace Christian (7-7-2) meets fifth-seeded Monroe Catholic Thursday at 9 a.m at PHS.

The Division II girls championship game is Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Wasilla.
