Eileen B. Heun

Eileen B. Heun, 89, of Palmer, died on March 16, 2021, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage.

Born April 6, 1931, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Eileen married Matthew C. Heun upon her graduation from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1952.

Eileen worked as a nurse for many years in Hazlet, New Jersey, and was instrumental in assisting to develop the Same Day Surgery Unit at Bayshore Community Hospital. She continued working in that capacity at the Valley Hospital in Palmer, and often volunteered at the Palmer Senior Center, regularly taking blood pressures for seniors and participating in various health fairs around the Valley. She also enjoyed her volunteer time reading to students at Sherrod and Swanson Elementary Schools.

Eileen was a loyal Palmer Moose fan who regularly attended her grandsons’ sporting events over the past thirty years. She was a long-time communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church in Palmer. She is survived by her brother, William Sinnott (Louise); sons, Rob (Michelle), Matthew Jr. (Linda), Craig (Ann), and Paul (Janet); daughter, Eileen Spezialy (Vince); nine grand-children, and two great-grand-children. She was predeceased by her husband, Matt, in 2008.

The family wishes to particularly thank the staff at Providence Hospital in Anchorage and her extended family at Campbell Creek House for their care and attention provided to Eileen in her later years. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date yet to be determined.
