Eklutna Lake moose hunt closes

Registration permit hunt RM445 for bull moose in the Eklutna Lake Management Area closed at one minute before midnight Oct. 5 by emergency order of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Anchorage area wildlife biologist Jessy Coltrane said four bull moose were reported taken as of Oct. 4 from a population of about 70 animals. The take of four bulls is consistent with the goal of maintaining appropriate bull-cow ratios and population levels in this hunt area.

The hunt area includes all of the Eklutna Lake Management Area in Unit 14(C). All other moose hunts in Unit 14 are unaffected by the emergency order.
