I am happy to see that an entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in the Native Village of Eklutna, a federally recognized tribal government! In ADN (10/11) article, “Eklutna sues.... in pursuit of tribal gaming operation”, James Brooks reports, “the tribal ordinance would limit activity to Class II gaming — pull-tabs, bingo, and lotteries”. I think, Fire Island would, also, be a great location for a casino, with a small ferry-boat service from our Anchorage small boat launching dock. Too bad, they cannot open a full-fledged Vegas-style casino, because current state law does not allow it.
I propose, we all ask our state legislators to change state law to allow full Vegas-style casinos with all the fun and games, and with a hefty state sales tax. Alaska desperately needs new industries and new revenues to fund our budget. Such a new state gaming law should be open for all to participate equally. I’m game!
