Elden Sandvik living in San Tan Valley AZ (80), passed away on August 18, 2018 in Mesa, AZ. Elden moved to Palmer in 1944, after his family members arrived for the Colony Resettlement Project. He grew up in the Matanuska Valley and was a member of the graduating class of 1955 at Palmer High School. He lived in the Valley most of his life, married, and raised his family there. Elden was well known in the local community for his mentorship, service work, and words of wisdom in terms living sober. He had a lifelong passion for reading and was deeply loved by his family. Elden’s sharp mind, quick wit, and outrageous sense of humor will be missed in particular.

Elden leaves behind his wife and best friend of nearly 30 years, Pam Lutgen-Sandvik. He is survived by his sister, Neola Sandvik Zeijlemaker; his sons, Dale, Daniel, and David Sandvik; his daughters, Kirsten Wood, Karena Sandvik, and Cynthia Sandvik; and his step-children Joseph Corbett and Jeannette Sanchez. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elden is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Sandvik and Lula Thorstenson Sandvik.

Services will be held at The Church of the Covenant, 415 S. Bailey, Palmer, AK. There will be a light luncheon afterward.
