Eleanor Selma Schoenheit-Brooks, 89, died June 21, 2006, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.
Eleanor was born March 7, 1917, in Saginaw, Mich., to Ella and Albert Schoenheit. She grew up in Saginaw.
She obtained a nursing license and married Alba Scott Brooks on Aug. 31, 1942 in Saginaw.
Eleanor was a nurse in the southern states for a while. She and her husband moved to Alaska, where Eleanor worked at the Geological Survey office. Later, she went to work at the Valley Hospital as a registered nurse.
For many years, Eleanor was the organist for St. John Lutheran Church. She had a love for music and the Lord. Eleanor was an experienced homemaker and an excellent cook. She loved to travel around Alaska and visit family in Michigan.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Lisbeth Brooks Ion, and son-in-law James Ion, of Centralia, Wash., brother Marvin Schoenheit and sister Ruth Schaitberger, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer, Friday, June 30, at 11 a.m. Donations may be given to St. John Lutheran Church in her
memory.
Valley Funeral Home in Palmer is assisting the family with arrangements.
