To the editor:
I am running for mayor of the Mat-Su Borough to preserve for my family and yours our quality of life.
I’m excited to work on port development, economic expansion, building critical infrastructure (i.e. fixing unsafe roads) and making sure public schools are fully funded.
I came to Alaska when the U.S. Army assigned me here 10 years ago. I’ve chosen to stay and raise my family.
The Jan. 11 election is critical for one main reason — a direction of leadership will be decided by the mayor’s race. The assembly is closely split between the “no rules” crowd (i.e. supporters of coal bed methane, coal plants in Palmer and unregulated coal mining) and members who want safeguards and some public comment on tough decisions.
I am proud to say I am supported by a majority of the current Mat-Su Borough Assembly. I also have a long history as a supporter of workers.
Every day I am receiving more endorsements from groups and individuals whom I respect — teachers, electrical workers and borough employees.
The bottom line is it is a priority for me to look out for working families.
Like any wannabe politician, I’m not perfect, but I will try hard to work in the public interest. I consider myself a “mainstream” Republican. If elected, I promise to do everything I can to protect our quality of life here in the Mat-Su Valley. I respectfully ask for your vote on Jan. 11.
Brian Sullivan
Candidate for Mat-Su Borough Mayor
