Electoral process ‘world’s most expensive joke’

To the editor:

The writers of the current crop of political advertisements seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel in order to bombard us with nonstop lies, distortions and irrelevant “facts.” Both sides are at fault here due to all the outside money pouring in, but the Ohio funded Dan Sullivan campaign seems to be the worst. Mr. Sullivan needs to realize that President Obama is not running for Alaska’s Senate seat. His main opponent is Mark Begich, who has been working hard, sometimes across party lines, to best serve his constituents. Instead of continually painting Begich with the “Obama brush,” how about telling us specifically how Sullivan would have voted differently on bills. Instead of trying to scare us into supporting him through the fear of a fictitious force of illegal immigrants crossing over from Mexico who belong to ISIS, are carrying the Ebola virus, and who used to live in Benghazi, how about focusing on things we should really be concerned about, right here in Alaska, like Climate Change, responsible resource development, renewable energy sources, jobs, affordable health care for all and a livable minimum wage? As for being a Marine, thanks for your service, but that is not part of the job description for a U.S. Senate seat. Issues, issues, issues. These ads are aimed at voters who are too uninformed or unintelligent to know the truth, and cause the rest of us to yell at the TV and turn it off. Thanks to Citizens United, our electoral process has become the world’s most expensive joke. Any candidate who changes their name to “None of the Above” will win by a landslide one of these days unless we can get the unlimited money out of our elections.
