Anchorage resident Elwood K. Hussey, 79, died of natural causes Feb. 14, 2002, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage.

Family and friends are invited to meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 8th Avenue and E Street, to form a procession to Fort Richardson. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at Fort Richardson Main Post Chapel, with a service at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Mr. Hussey was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Eureka, Calif. While growing up in Cave Junction, Ore., he worked in the logging industry. He later served in the U.S. Army for 31 years, from 1940 through 1945, and 1947 through 1973. His tours of service included World War II in the European and Pacific Theaters, the Korean War and Vietnam. During his service he earned many awards, including the Bronze Star and Distinguished Service Medal.

In 1956, he had moved to Alaska, living in Wasilla and later in Anchorage. After his career in the army, Mr. Hussey embarked on a second career in the Federal Aviation Administration in Alaska, and was employed with them for 13 years.

While a resident in Wasilla he was a member of the Glacier View Alliance Church.

Mr. Hussey enjoyed time with family, music, woodworking and mechanics.

His family said, "He was a deeply spiritual man who loved and served his family, country and God. His legacy is his family and friends; we have all been touched by his compassion, reverence, kindness, humor and love. The center of his life was his wife, Ada, their 56-year marriage, and their family."

Mr. Hussey is survived by his wife, Ada Hussey; daughters and sons-in-law, Clarissa and Lloyd Allen, Jackie and Scott Warren, Dodie and Wayne Martsolf and Gerry and Marshall Ellison; brother and sister-in-law, Otis and Carm Hussey and their family; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Elreath Karen Hussey; parents, Elwood and Amy Hussey; and nephew, Michael Hussey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Parkinson's Research-Alaska Chapter of Alzheimer's Association, 240 E. Tudor Road, Suite 110, Anchorage, AK 99503; or to Hospice of Anchorage, 501 W. International Airport Road, Suite C, Anchorage, AK 99518.

Arrangements were made by Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Anchorage.
