WASILLA — Emily Robinson won the 2023 Jr Iditarod. This was the second year in a row the Nenana musher took first place.
"I think it's exceptional," Jr Iditarod board president, Julia Redington said. "She works well with those dogs and she really works hard herself."
Julia said that she was impressed by the young mushers' skill and dedication as they faced numerous challenges in Alaska's harsh and cold wilderness.
"I think it was a really successful race," Julia said.
There were a total of 16 mushers this year. Jr Iditarod board member, Barbara Redington said that she was thrilled with the overall turnout.
"It's wonderful we had that big of a field," Barb said.
This race marked the 46th year of this widely cherished community tradition. The start and finish was held at Knik Lake.
Lance Mackey was the honorary musher and his brother Jason Mackey left the starting line in his memory.
