End daylight saving time

To the editor:

Once again we have disrupted everyone’s sleep cycle and are sending school children off in the dark in the name of daylight saving time. This is stupid since we already keep the wrong time by virtue of keeping Greenwich Mean Time minus nine hours, rather than minus 10 hours, which we should be keeping. Does anyone who has lived through an Alaska summer believe we are short of daylight?

If you were selling daylight saving time as a product, you would go to jail for fraud. Daylight saving time does not add one second of daylight time, but simply shifts when daylight occurs during the 24-hour day. Alaska should end this folly and opt out of daylight saving time as Arizona and Hawaii have done. We have an election this November and ending daylight saving time should be an issue the candidates state their positions on.
