Energy Watch urges power conservation

SOUTHCENTRAL — Anchorage, Mat-Su and the Kenai Peninsula are teaming up again to test how much the area can conserve power.

Energy Watch is asking residents to do as much as they can to avoid using power today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., “in order to gauge how much natural gas can be saved through conservation efforts.”

To keep tabs on the operation, visit Facebook and search for Energy Watch Alaska. Energy Watch is inspired by fears of brownouts as natural gas supplies to the area dwindle before new fields can come online. Participants include all of the area utilities, including the Matanuska Electric Association.
