To the editor:
The Mat-Su Borough cell tower topic is still a hot item. First, towers were regulated, then they weren’t. Now the Mat-Su Borough is trying, once again, to come up with enforceable guidelines to protect residents’ property.
The latest thing I’ve heard is that the telecom folks want the right to condemn our property in order to build cell towers wherever they want. I’m sorry, but this MSB “open for business” mantra is verging on insanity. If you think tall towers are safe, I suggest you check out the photos on this link, facebook.com/groups/matsutalltowers/.
These towers came down because of snow, ice, faulty welds, metal fatigue, wind or vandalism, and we have all of those here in the Valley. They collapsed on houses, cars, commercial buildings, roads and fields and did considerable damage.
Does your homeowner’s insurance cover you if a cell tower falls on your house? Local elections are important, and it’s time to elect local officials who represent the people, rather than big business exclusively. Enough is enough.
