Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Esther Gallagher, 89, died peacefully at the Palmer Pioneers' home Nov. 17, 2003. Her ashes will be spread on Mount Marcus Baker.
No local services are planned.
Mrs. Gallagher was born June 4, 1914, in Seattle, Wash., to David and Anna Jones.
She graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1932.
She married Peter T. Gallagher in 1934 in Seattle. They settled in western Washington, raised a family and worked in the coal mining industry.
During the summer of 1945 the family moved to Suntrana, Alaska, and worked at the Cap Lathrop coal mine. Six years later they relocated to Palmer where she was to remain for the rest of her life.
After the death of her husband in 1963 she became a licensed practical nurse and was employed at Valley Hospital until her retirement.
Throughout the years she was an active member of Moose Club Ladies Auxiliary and the Butte Homemakers Club.
Her hobbies included flying, bird watching, gardening, raising various pets, sewing and knitting.
Her family, friends, neighbors and all who knew her often remarked about her quiet manner, graceful smile and her pleasant personality.
Her parents, brother Emlyn and her husband preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gallagher is survived by her sons and daughter-in- laws Jeremy and Rebecca Gallagher, Charles Michael and Cindy Gallagher of Palmer, Peter T. Gallagher of Colorado; her grandchildren Colleen, Steven, Sean, Michael, Kyle, Danielle, Peter and Meghan; and several great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wasilla.
