EUGENE WALTER COMEAU

Eugene Walter Comeau, 72, died Aug. 10, 2005, at his cabin in Willow, of natural causes. The memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m., at his cabin in Willow, and his ashes will be spread on Florence Lake.

Mr. Comeau was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Glens Falls, N.Y., to his parents, Eugene and Isabel Comeau.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, from 1950 to 1954. In 1955, Mr. Comeau married Beatrice (Jaquish) and the two moved to Los Angeles. While there, he worked for the Pacific Telephone Co. until his retirement in 1988. In 1997, the couple moved to Anchorage. On July 9, Mr. Comeau and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Comeau was a man of faith; he loved his family, and devoted his life to them. His other interests included golf, poker, watching old westerns, and designing/building his cabin in Willow.

In 2000, Mr. Comeau began working for the Anchorage School District as a noon duty at Rogers Park Elementary School.

Michelle Petros, 11, his youngest granddaughter, who attends Rogers Park, said, "All the kids loved and respected him, they're really going to miss him."

Mr. Comeau is survived by his wife, Beatrice Comeau; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Don Brumbelow of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Eugene Ralph and Toni Comeau of Anchorage; grandchildren, Joshua Comeau, Adrienne Petros, Jacob Comeau, Alexander Petros, and Michelle Petros of Anchorage; brother, Ronald Comeau of Winchester, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Sonny Hess of Fawcett, Mo., and aunt, Theresa Fuller of Glens Falls, N.Y.
