Evelyn Davis

Evelyn Davis, 92, died Feb. 6, 2006, at her home in Palmer, of pneumonia, which was a complication from Alzheimer's disease. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army in Palmer. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army.

Mrs. Davis was born to Oscar and Freida Pearson on Nov. 26, 1913, in Mount Vernon, Wash. She was raised on a farm south of Mount Vernon. She went to a country school in Cederdale. After school, she worked for Carnation. She met Floyd Davis in 1946 and married him on Nov. 12, 1947, at the Wasilla Post Office, by Magistrate May Carter.

The Davises were vegetable farmers. They sold their produce to the military base in Anchorage and in the Matanuska Valley to Palmer Produce. She also worked for the Mat-Su School District in the kitchen and for Valley Hospital.

Her family wrote, &#8220Evelyn made her choice to serve God more than 60 years ago before coming to Alaska.”

Mrs. Davis is survived by two daughters, Ethel Gumminger of Spokane, Wash., and Gladys Davis of Palmer; five grandchildren, Butch Gumminger and wife, Brenda, of Wasilla, Ron Gumminger of Anchorage, Floyd Gumminger of Spokane Valley, Wash., and wife, Tawnya, Jacklyn of Soap Lake, Wash., and Joe Gumminger of Spokane, Wash., and great-grandchildren, Kaila Sikes of Michigan, Nathan and Dylan Gumminger of Wasilla, Haylie Gumminger of Spokane Valley and Ashlee Crain of Soap Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Davis; two brothers, Bob Pearson and Edgar Pearson; parents, Oscar and Freida Pearson, and granddaughter, Janine Sikes.
