A gray jay enjoys some peanut butter in this feeder near a Meadow Lakes home. Bird watchers in the Valley are gearing up for the area’s 31st annual Christmas Bird Count, set for Nov. 19. Valley field counters will attempt to count every bird seen inside of the Matanuska Valley Count Circle, a 15-mile circle centered at Four Corners on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Trunk Road. If you would like to participate in this year’s Matanuska Valley Christmas Bird, contact Bob Winckler at msbirder@mtaonline.net. (HEATHER A. RESZ/Frontiersman)
