Editor’s note: According to the movement’s website, See You at the Pole is a global prayer event in which students gather at the flagpole in front of their schools on the fourth Wednesday of September. The idea was formed by a group in Burleson, Texas. The very first See You at the Pole in 1990 drew in participants in four states and it’s only gotten bigger.
Today, I had the honor of attending See You at the Pole at my former high school.
As I pulled into Colony High, I saw one student waiting at the pole. I walked up to see one of my friends who was a freshman my senior year. A few more gathered and there were maybe five or six and I was happy to see a “crowd” around the pole.
By the end of See You at the Pole we had around thirty teenagers praying for their school. They were joined as one, teens from different denominations and churches praying in different styles and showing me just how vast the body of Christ truly is.
These teens prayed for their peers, their teachers and their nation. I saw the heart of God as teens prayed for their friends to see their value, as the boys prayed for a community of young men to protect and value their women. I saw teens pray against bullying and depression and I saw a hope for the future gathered around that pole.
These teens were not the apathetic, lazy, selfish teens our society so readily portrays them as. These teens were warriors of Christ willing to lay down their lives and reputations in hopes of seeing their friends saved and their schools safe. These teens took a literal stand around their flagpole, ready for change.
The best part is, it wasn’t only Colony High School. Schools around the state and around the nation, with the same purpose, serving the same God, gathered around their flagpoles and shared the heart of Christ.
I’ve heard it and I believe that revival starts in our schools, in our community of teenagers, and I have hope that revival is near. Actually, I believe that revival is here.
Thank you so much Colony High School for showing me what the love of God can do and thank you for showing me your hearts. I look forward to the testimonies of other schools and to come together as one at the See You at the Pole Rally tonight.
God bless.
