WASILLA -- On Wednesday, Mark Ewing said he would be happy to win Wasilla City Council seat F by even one vote. He ended up with a little more breathing room when the final ballots were counted Friday.
At the final tally, Ewing defeated incumbent Verdie Bowen by 49 votes -- 478-429.
Ewing led Bowen by only 36 votes after all poll ballots were counted last Wednesday but the final outcome was still very much in doubt with 81 ballots from absentee, early vote, questioned and special needs voters still uncounted until Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Bowen was appointed to seat F on the Wasilla City Council in January 2004 and served roughly nine months. He will be replaced by Ewing on Oct. 25, when the new council members are officially sworn in.
