Expect to find nasty, moldering piles of garbage

To the editor:

The article detailing the Mat-Su Borough’s decision to raise landfill rates in the July 14 issue of the Frontiersman was incredible.

“Assembly members saw the change as a way to create a strong incentive for recycling, said Borough Public Works director, Terry Dolan.”

Really? The people into recycling are already doing it and the few changeovers on the fringe won’t make a perceptible difference. Irresponsible people can’t be compelled to change their behavior. If the choice is to pay for, say, booze and pot, or to pay big bucks at the dump, hmm....

As I stated in a previous letter, people have expressed serious concerns over this decision. I predict you’ll be finding nasty, moldering piles of garbage in unexpected places.

How about not wasting money on a worthless ferry or getting back the $65,225 Lynn Gattis (R-Wasilla) got for an easement she didn’t own, but kept anyway (Frontiersman: D.C. Group calls for probe of Gattis, March 24, 2014).

Then maybe the landfills could be cheap or even free, for a while.
