PALMER — The Alaska State Fair awarded $4,250 in scholarships to five high school students from across Alaska.
“The selection committee was very impressed with the young people who applied for the scholarships this year. They submitted some very creative and unique ideas to improve or expand the fair,” said General Manager Jerome Hertel. “Some gave ideas for a new booth or program, while others had a great idea for a theme. We will definitely be exploring opportunities to implement some of the ideas in the future.”
Recipients are Zelek McNeilly of Pilot Station, $1,500; Linda Kimoktoak of Koyuk, $1,000; Aleksander Pierson Rentz of Chugiak High School; Arvinelle Gandia of Barrow, $500; and Michael Dale of Juneau-Douglas High School, $500.
