PALMER — The Alaska State Fair is seeking candidates to serve on its board of directors. Completed applications must be received by 4:30 p.m., Dec. 16.
There will be three board seats, each with a three-year term, up for election. Incumbents are Carol Kenley, Danny Consenstein and Kristy Bernier. The fair general membership will vote to fill the seats at the annual membership meeting at 7 p.m., Feb. 13, 2014, at Raven Hall on the fairgrounds.
“We are seeking individuals who can envision this traditional fair as a great gathering place for all Alaskans by encompassing the past, present and future — individuals who can make the full commitment of time and self discipline it takes to set policy and direction,” said John Harkey, fair board president.
Interested board candidates should complete the “Candidate Profile and Conflict of Interest” disclosure, which are available by following the link on the fair home page at alaskastatefair.org. Qualified candidates must be Alaska residents, at least 18 years old and be current members of Alaska State Fair Inc. Interested applicants can learn more about membership and become a member at alaskastatefair.org.
Prior to applying, candidates should review and be familiar with the fair’s mission statement, articles of incorporation and bylaws, board policy manual, code of conduct and director’s responsibilities. These are also available at alaskastatefair.org.
The seven-member board of directors is responsible for setting policy for the Alaska State Fair, a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation. Current directors include John Harkey, president; Carol Kenley, vice president; Stephen Brown, secretary; Danny Consenstein, treasurer; John Tracy, director; Richard Stryken, director; and Kristy Bernier, director.
