To the editor:
I think it’s time to work on moving the fair up to about Aug. 7.Obviously, we have a country fair and need to be concerned with the ripening of our produce; however, the climate has changed in Alaska.
In our garden, we had to harvest our zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc., more than 10 days ago or they would rot. Our flowers have mostly died out and gone to seed now. It certainly is way past their prime so competition is lousy. I realize the fair has a schedule in the Lower 48, but they are still in their peak time right now so maybe we could switch fair dates with another town.
We all talk about the lousy timing with school being in session. The rain reduces the number of attendees, so it’s time the fair planners make an obvious and needed change to the schedule. We had thunder and lightning with the rain, which makes me worry about electrocution on the rides. Our weather has changed, so we need to adjust to meet Mother Nature’s schedule.
