WASILLA — Birchtree Charter School’s annual Fall Faire was Sept. 25 was filled with activities for the whole family, many of which revolved around developing an appreciation for things in nature.
Families enjoyed participation in both indoor and outdoor activities such as making nature mobiles with beeswax-dipped leaves and dehydrated orange slices, making treats around the campfire, tie-dying t-shirts, making fairy wands and wooden swords, and participating in a potato dig.
Other activities included the Running Through the Birches fun run, a talent share, engraving geometric designs, making owls, and playing numerous games.
A baked potato bar, homemade soups, and German fry bread were featured lunch items. Many of the activities were organized and run by the upper-grade students.
Similar Fall Festivals are held in other Waldorf schools around the world as ways to celebrate the harvest season and to prepare for the upcoming winter months. As light from the sun diminishes in the northern latitudes, these celebrations are reminders to strengthen and share our inner light.
