WASILLA — Family Promise Mat-Su is inviting the public to help them celebrate their 20th anniversary of serving the Mat-Su Valley.
Family Promise Mat-Su serves as the local chapter for the national non-profit organization Family Promise, offering various services to families such as homelessness prevention, transitional housing, and stabilization.
The 20-year anniversary event takes place Saturday, June 4 at the H.O.P.E. Navigation Center.
This community event will feature various activities such as a bounce house, free food, and tours of the new facility, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Wasilla Mayor Glenda Ledford.
“We are so excited," Family Promise Mat-Su Executive Director Ginger Bear said.
The H.O.P.E. Navigation Center is officially open for business and ready to assist local clients through a range of services. It serves as a multifaceted resource hub offering a variety of services to individuals and families across various levels of need, including child care, computer use for job readiness, evening meals for the homeless, indoor play space during cold weather, and apartment space for disaster relief survivors.
The H.O.P.E Navigation Center now serves as the main headquarters for Family Promise Mat-Su as staff and volunteers continue to transition from the former head office near Wonderland Park. The former main office will continue to operate and offer services such as case management and transitional housing.
The new facility was donated to Family Promise by the Pioneer Christian Fellowship. Bear said this was the culminating example of how their organization has been able to grow and expand their ability to serve the community. She said the continuous generosity of locals willing to help has enabled Family Promise staff and volunteers to support their neighbors throughout the year.
"It really is evidence of the support of the community. It's just amazing. This community believes in the mission of family promise," Bear said.
