Family seeks donations following house fire

MEADOW LAKES — A family left homeless after a house fire on Rainbow Drive Oct. 8 needs financial help.

For now, Sheila Jette and fiancé Seth Moore are temporarily sheltering with her mother, Linda Bolam’s apartment and sleeping on the floor of her two-bedroom apartment, though conditions for the apartments five residents and one large dog are understandably temporary. The family has established a page on the GoFundMe.com crowd-sourcing website, and raised $350 from four donors by Thursday afternoon.

The family is hoping to raise enough money to move into an apartment by Nov. 1, and for that reason, set the page goal at $5,000, Bolam said.

“I wanted her to do $10,000, but she didn’t want to be greedy,” she said.

The family is also seeking clothing — most of theirs was destroyed in the fire — in 32 x 32 size men’s pants and women’s pants size 13 to 16 — as well as money for furniture, some food, and dishes, and prescription glasses, according to Jette and Bolam.

For her part, Jette is focused on finding a new home.

“We went to the Red Cross today, and they’re going to help us,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Alaska State Fire Marshal investigation into the fire continues, according to fire marshal spokesman Tim DeSpain.
