Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

I wish to express my thanks to the Frontiersman and reporter Mike Rovito for the nice story and photo of my “goodbye” (for now), waving to commuters along the Glenn Highway on June 30.
I would have preferred to get my rest instead of getting up at 3:45 a.m. to begin greeting folks at 5 — and frankly it was a little scary facing 25,000 commuters not knowing their reaction — but it was extremely important to me that I show my thanks and gratitude one final time before I turned myself in to the U.S. Marshal’s later that morning. Your response was overwhelmingly positive!
I’m absolutly grateful to the many wonderful people who have supported me over the years and for the faith you’ve justified in me with your vote election after election. My staff and I did our best serving our community and hopefully made a difference in making the Mat-Su a better place to live.
It was an incredible honor to represent the Valley and very humbling for me. I sincerely thank you for that opportunity.
It is my hope, as I sit here writing from a prison cell, that truth and justice will eventually prevail and that I will win an appeal and get a new trial.
All I ask for is a fair judge with no personal bias and blatant conflict of interest, a trial in a neutral location where the jury hasn’t been tainted by the relentless big-city media, and where ALL evidence is brought forth.
Under these circumstances, I KNOW I will be found innocent.
I long for the day when I regain my freedom and return to my home in Wasilla to be reunited with my family and my so many fabulous friends who have remained by my side throughout this horrifying ordeal.
Thank you Mat-Su for allowing me to serve you. It was a very proud 12 years for me. May God bless you.
