Fire erupted early Wednesday morning in a duplex in Wasilla, and one person was found dead, according to Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB) officials.
Reports of the fire came in around 6:30 a.m. with units from Central Mat-Su Fire and West Lakes Fire responding. According to Ken Barkley, the MSB Director of Emergency Services, the fire was brought under control around 7:20 a.m.
Occupants of the duplex were reported safe after receiving assistance extricating from the structure. Photos of the remaining structure show extent of the exterior damage.
Barkley said Thursday there was no new information to release at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as the fire department continues to process the scene.
