Fatal fire in Meadow Lakes

Over the weekend, while making a routine patrol in Meadow Lakes, an Alaska State Trooper (AST) was flagged down by a neighbor to report a structure fire in the area, according to the online dispatch report.

After locating the fire and calling for additional first responders, AST attempted to enter the premises, but was held back due to intense heat and smoke, along with debris blocking their entrance.

Upon arrival, West Lakes Fire Department located 80-year-old Mary Vanwaveren of Wasilla deceased inside the residence.

The online dispatch reports that there are no signs of foul play at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and the next of kin has been notified.
