On June 2, 2024, Alaska State Troopers (AST) were notified of a single vehicle motorcycle accident near mile 49 of the Parks Highway.

According to the AST dispatch, the investigation revealed Timothy Hoffman Sr., age 58 of Anchorage, was riding with a passenger while participating in a memorial ride when he lost control of his motorcycle as he was northbound passing S. Rainbow Street, leaving the left shoulder of the road and rolling into the center median.

AST reports that Hoffman was not wearing a helmet, while his passenger was. Both were found unresponsive after authorities were notified and were transported to the local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where Hoffman was later pronounced deceased. The passenger remains in critical condition.

The Parks highway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours with traffic diverted to the frontage road. Next of kin have been notified. Investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

According to a social media post, Hoffman was participating in an annual memorial ride for his late daughter when the incident occurred. Hoffman’s daughter, Cynthia, was murdered in June 2019 near Thunderbird Falls by four teenagers who say they were “catfished” online by another man, believing that the man was willing to pay $9 million to murder someone in Alaska. Two of the four have already received 99-year sentences, while the others await sentencing.
