MAT-SU — Law enforcement agencies conducted a joint investigation in the Mat-Su Borough Wednesday.
Kevin Feldis, chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Anchorage, said representatives from federal, state and local law enforcement agencies served federal search warrants at multiple locations in the Valley.
“There is no danger to the community at this time,” Feldis said Wednesday afternoon.
He said the investigation is ongoing, and noted that the department does not release information about ongoing investigations.
Callers to the Frontiersman newsroom reported about a dozen police cars — marked and unmarked — at a residence off Knik-Goose Bay Road Wednesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Anchorage media was abuzz Wednesday with reports of similar teams of officers descending on businesses there, including, according to KTUU television, a West Anchorage gas station, an East Anchorage liquor store and smoke shops in Anchorage and Eagle River.
When asked via email if the matters were connected in any way, Feldis again declined comment.
“In light of the ongoing nature of the investigation, and because matters remain under seal, I cannot comment upon the scope of the investigation or the locations searched,” he replied.
