The U.S Federal Energy Management Agency announced March 14 that federal disaster assistance has been made available to the state of Alaska to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by a severe winter storm and high winds from January 1 to January 4, 2022.

This makes federal funding available to the state, local and tribal governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

Thomas J. Dargan has been named Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas. Additional announcements will come later if warranted by the results of damage assessments.
