Fight turns into shooting

TRAPPER CREEK — Alaska State Troopers haven’t charged anyone one or released any names but say that a fight in the Valley’s northern reaches led to one man being shot.

According to a trooper press statement, officers were called to the scene in Trapper Creek at 5:28 p.m., Thursday.

They say two adult men were fighting and one was shot. They described his injuries as non-life threatening and say he was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

Troopers say the shooter didn’t escape unharmed — he had a dislocated shoulder and “minor injuries to the rest of his body.”

Neither man was arrested, troopers report. Charges were sent to the District Attorney for review.

Switcheroo doesn’t fool police

WASILLA — Police say that by the time they got a white Dodge Neon speeding down the Parks Highway stopped the two men inside had switched seats.

The Neon was called in by a passerby at 11:04 p.m., Tuesday. Wasilla police say it was driving between 90 and 95 mph. When police spotted the Neon it was tailgating a vehicle just south of Church Road.

Police say the original driver was Orin Zurfluh, 27, of Anchorage, who they arrested for drunken driving, driving on a revoked license and weapons misconduct.

Police also talked to the original passenger, Konrad Brandner, who they issued a summons for reckless driving.

Brandner, “did admit he was awakened and told to switch seats,” police report.

Zurfluh was jailed on $4,500 bail at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. Prison records Friday afternoon showed he was still there.

Dropped mug distracts

driver in collision

WASILLA — Alaska State Troopers say a wayward coffee mug caused an accident at Pittman and Church roads Thursday.

Troopers say Becky Ross, 42, of Wasilla, was driving a gray 1991 Cadillac Deville southbound on Church coming to the stop sign at Pittman.

At the same time, Amanda Baird, 25, of Wasilla, was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry eastbound on Pittman, approaching the intersection.

Troopers say Baird dropped her coffee mug and was picking it up off the floorboard when she ran the sign and hit Ross. Both cars were totaled.

Baird suffered injuries troopers said were not life-threatening and was hospitalized at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. She was also cited for running a stop sign.
