WASILLA — A fire Sunday morning completely destroyed a home off of Dimond Way. Central Mat-Su Fire Department Assistant Chief Michael Keenan said the fire was reported right around dinner time.
“The property owner had left the house at 4 (p.m.) and was across the street at his neighbors,” Keenan said. “At some point they saw the glow and went over to investigate.”
He said that by the time the man and his neighbor got there, the house was completely engulfed in flames.
Keenan said that when firefighters arrived, there was a danger of it spreading into the woods.
“We also had some vehicles that caught fire and some out buildings that were in danger of catching fire,” Keenan said.
He said the home was three stories and estimated it as 40-feet by 70-feet. He said the cause is not suspicious, but the fire is under investigation.
“No personnel were hurt, there was a dog lost in the fire, though,” Keenan said.
Keenan said that crews were on scene six hours. There were 30 Mat-Su Central firefighters there and eight fire trucks as well as a ninth truck from Palmer.
Dimond Way intersects Blue Lupine Drive east of Seward Meridian Parkway.
