WASILLA — An apparent electrical fire in the floor of a popular Meadow Lakes tavern caused about $100,000 worth of damage, authorities said.
No one was injured in the Wednesday blaze at the Silver Fox Inn, near the intersection of West Swan Drive and the Parks Highway. The owners reported to local officials about 7 a.m., according to West Lakes Fire Department battalion chief James Keel. The fire started near a junction box in the building’s basement, and the building’s owners tried to put it out themselves before calling firefighters, according to Keel.
Firefighters worked over several hours to eliminate fires in the spaces between rooms, Keel said.
“We’re looking at probably a third of the building,” he said.
Damages were estimated at between $100,000 and $150,000, Keel said. The owners told him the business would likely close for at least a month while they worked to repair it. Friends and contractors were already on-scene to begin work on the repairs Wednesday morning.
The property and business license are registered to Cassandra Alley, according to state and borough records. Calls to the listed number for the Silver Fox Inn went unanswered Thursday morning.
